Player of the Week
|
|
June 16th 2009 - We’re doing things a little differently for the 18+ Player of the Week award for this past Sunday.
The IABL wishes to recognize the efforts of all the members of the league who extended themselves so that baseball could be played.
A Sunday morning cancellation at Roncalli made it necessary to relocate two games. The 28+ Dodgers and Expos to Trinity at 6:30 and the 18+ Beavers and Reds moved to Plainfield at 3:30.
When rain hit Plainfield it looked like the day was lost, but that’s when people started stepping up. Umpire Dave Griffey called and volunteered to stay at the field because there was an outside chance that with some work on the infield we could get the late game in. Plainfield contact Tom Haste came out to Hummel Park and with the help of the Beavers and Reds was able to get the field in playing condition. Thanks to managers Bryston Bangel and Erik Plotner for getting their teams moved and for getting them to pick up rakes and shovels instead of bats and gloves.
At Trinity, Jeff Jellison and his staff agreed to stay late, as did umpires Joe Buesking and Steve Deniston. Thanks to Adam Adkins and Kyle Corbin for being able to adapt to the changes and get their teams out for a night game when they were originally scheduled for a 12:30 start, especially in light of the fact that some of the Expos had to go to work as soon as the game was over.
Thanks to Eric Harmon for all his hard work making sure we had umpires.
It would have been a shame to have not played these games, as they were both well-played closely contested affairs. Check out the highlights.
Since I can’t give out the highly coveted Applebee’s gift certificate to everyone, this week the Riblets go to Plainfields’ Tom Haste and veteran umpire Dave Griffey. A 28+ Player of the week will be named later.
Due to the extra efforts of all these people, this past Sunday was a success. This is an example for the entire league. It is this attitude and devotion to the league and the game that makes the IABL special. Once again, thanks to all.
