Player of the Week
August 15th 2009 -
First we have to catch up on the week I missed while I was out of town.
The 18+ Player of the Week for August 2 is Daren Johnson.  In the two victories for the Arrows, Daren was a combined 7 for 10.  He racked up 14 total bases on 4 Doubles and a Home Run.  The Home Run was a line drive shot for a Grand Slam giving him 8 RBI on the day.

Honorable Mention goes to Jon Oren of the Arrows and Dave Clendennin of the Hurricanes.

Jon was 8 for 9 in the two games, with 4 Doubles and 6 RBI

Dave must have taken advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program and gotten a new set of wheels.  His 2 for 4 day in the Hurricanes win included a stolen base and an Inside the Park Home Run!

The 28+ honors go to Bill Wischnowski who led the way for the Brewers with his arm and his bat.  Bill threw a 6 hit complete game and helped himself with a Double, Triple and 5 RBI.

Honorable Mention
Dustin Brown with yet another complete game for the Pirates, shutting down Dayton on 5 hits and only 2 runs.
Paul Siegrist stepped up with a complete game of his own allowing only 1 Earned Run in the Expos 5-4 win over Dayton.
Tom Burdick set the offensive tone for the Bulldogs, going 5 for 6 with 4 RBI.

For the week ending August 9.

The 18+ Player of the week is Daniel Surdi of the Orioles.  Dan went 4 for 4 with a Double, Triple and 4 RBI and then pitched 3 innings of relief to pick up the win.

Honorable Mention

Ryan Wyland with a complete game win over the Mustangs.  Ryan missed his bid for a no hitter in the 9th.

Eric Teall in a losing cause for the Arrows struck out 13 Dodgers in 8 1/3 innings.

Anthony Powers in his debut with the Dodgers hit a 2 run Home Run in the 9th to win the game and spoil Tealls’ effort.

In the 28+ it seems like the pitchers are getting stronger, with more complete games every week…or are the wood bats making that much difference?

Dustin Brown gets the nod for Player of the Week with a 3 hitter against the Bulldogs.

For a change, Dustin let someone else finish the last 2 innings of the game.  Maybe his legs gave out after 4 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.

Honorable Mention

Pete Martin with a complete game for the Expos allowing only 7 hits and 2 runs.
Shawn Gibson had a complete game for the Red Sox, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits.
